LightForce Brackets
LightForce Brackets in Fishers and Indianapolis, IN
Orthodontic treatment has come a long way from traditional one-size-fits-all brackets. Today, children and teens may have access to more personalized options that are designed around their individual teeth, bite, and treatment plan. LightForce brackets are a modern orthodontic system that uses digital planning and 3D printing to create custom braces for each patient.
At Children’s Dental Center, we offer LightForce brackets as part of our orthodontic services for children and teens who need braces but may benefit from a more customized approach. These brackets are designed to fit your child’s teeth more precisely than traditional stock brackets, helping guide tooth movement according to a personalized treatment plan.
What Are LightForce Brackets?
LightForce brackets are custom 3D-printed orthodontic brackets used to straighten teeth and improve bite alignment. Unlike traditional braces, which use standard brackets that are adjusted to fit each patient’s treatment needs, LightForce brackets are made specifically for the individual patient.
The process starts with digital planning. A digital scan or model of your child’s teeth is used to help plan the movement of each tooth. From there, the brackets are created to match the shape of your child’s teeth and the goals of the orthodontic treatment plan.
This custom approach allows the brackets to be designed around your child’s unique smile. For parents, that means treatment is not based on a generic appliance; it’s planned with your child’s tooth anatomy, bite, and orthodontic needs in mind.
How Are LightForce Brackets Different From Traditional Braces?
Traditional braces are very effective and have helped patients straighten their teeth for many years. However, traditional brackets are typically manufactured in standard shapes and sizes. The orthodontic plan is then carried out through bracket placement, wire changes, and adjustments over time.
LightForce brackets take a different approach. Each bracket is digitally designed and 3D printed for a specific tooth. This allows the appliance to be more personalized from the beginning of treatment. The brackets are created based on where the teeth are now and where they are planned to move.
LightForce treatment may also use custom indirect bonding trays. These trays help place the brackets in the planned positions more efficiently and accurately. Since bracket placement is an important part of orthodontic treatment, this can help support a more streamlined experience.
Why a Child or Teen May Need LightForce Brackets
LightForce brackets may be recommended for children or teens who need braces to correct alignment or bite concerns. They may be used for many of the same reasons traditional braces are used, including crowded teeth, spacing between teeth, rotated teeth, overbite, underbite, crossbite, or general bite alignment concerns.
Some children may first need Phase 1 Orthodontics, expanders, habit appliances, or space management before moving into full braces. Others may be ready for comprehensive orthodontic treatment once more permanent teeth have erupted.
During your child’s evaluation, our team will look at their teeth, bite, jaw development, and overall orthodontic needs. If LightForce brackets are a good fit, we will explain why they may be recommended and what you can expect from treatment.
Benefits of LightForce Brackets
One of the main benefits of LightForce brackets is customization. Because the brackets are created for your child’s individual teeth, they are designed to support the specific goals of the treatment plan. This can help make orthodontic care feel more precise and personalized.
Another benefit is digital planning. With LightForce, the orthodontic plan is mapped out before the brackets are made. This allows the provider to think through tooth movement carefully and design the brackets around the intended outcome.
LightForce brackets may also offer a more efficient treatment experience for some patients. Because the system is digitally planned and custom made, it may reduce some of the guesswork involved with bracket placement and tooth movement. However, every child is different, and treatment time depends on the complexity of the case, growth, cooperation, oral hygiene, and follow-up care.
For busy families, a more personalized system may also help make appointments feel more organized and predictable. Our team will let you know what your child’s visit schedule may look like and how often they should be seen.

What Should Parents Expect During the LightForce Process?
The LightForce process usually begins with an orthodontic evaluation. We will examine your child’s teeth, bite, spacing, and jaw development. Diagnostic information, such as digital scans or X-rays, may be used to better understand how the teeth and bite are developing.
If LightForce brackets are recommended, the treatment plan is created digitally. The brackets are then custom made for your child’s teeth. Once the brackets are ready, they are bonded to the teeth, usually with the help of a custom tray that supports accurate placement.
After the brackets are placed, your child will return for regular visits so we can monitor progress and make any needed adjustments. Just like with traditional braces, your child will need to follow instructions, keep the teeth clean, avoid certain foods, and attend scheduled appointments.
Will LightForce Brackets Shorten Treatment Time?
LightForce brackets are designed to support a more customized and digitally planned treatment experience. For some patients, this may help treatment move more efficiently. However, no orthodontic system can guarantee a specific treatment time for every child.
Treatment length depends on several factors, including the severity of the orthodontic issue, how the teeth respond, your child’s growth, oral hygiene, and whether appointments are kept consistently. Broken brackets, poor brushing, or missed visits can slow treatment down.
During your child’s consultation, we can give you a better idea of the expected timeline based on their individual case. We’ll also explain what your child can do to help treatment stay on track.
